Vitalist the best Gtd online Web application

Guys, just wanted to share that I’m back with my trusty Nokia E71, after having the N85 for 21 days I can honestly say I missed the qwerty keyboard, I found myself making less entries and relying on igoogle and other methods to input my next actions, so its good to be back in the game again.

Now onto a more enlightening revelation, Vitalist, I’ve been with Vitalist for a number of years, I took a sabbatical from them for about 1.2 years. As a Gtd geek that I am, I’m always thinking of better ways to manage my workload, so I kicked off Safari and went back to Vitalist to see if anything had change and boy was I glad. Vitalist has evolutionized to an impeccable application, enough for me to switch my entire gtd setup into a trustworthy application. I’ll be detailing my transtion back to Vitalist in an upcoming series of posts, so keep your eye out, its gonna be worth it.

The Micromanager/Implementer by David Allen

This is an excerpt from David Allen’s new book “Making It All Happen”

If as a rule you operate with a high control factor but lack perspective, you will likely place an inordinate emphasis on structure, process, and system — the characteristic traits of a Micromanager. You will have a tendency to overorganize, trying to maintain more control than is really necessary to get where you’re going. Form, in other words, will overtake function. This is the natural domain of the proverbial bean-counter, the financial guy who, if he wields too much power, strangles a company by cutting off investment in innovation, design, and research. At some point there will be no more beans to count. Publicly traded companies always risk long-term growth and survival when they are too focused on controlling their stock price by managing only toward the next quarterly earnings report. Another typical example of this sort of thinking is the person who spends a large portion of his day building systems for replenishing paper clips at the expense of the bigger game he should be playing.

Upvise, a cool Gtd application

Cruising the internet I stumbled into Upvise, a cool gtd application with an online web interface. My favorite thing about this app is that it sync 100% faithfully and that’s a great feature because it can be a very dependable solution between my E71 and the Web interface but it has a couple of things which bother me a bit.

  1. The price, its $49.99 for the year, that’s too expensive, I’d be willing to pay $20-25 just so it can handle my gtd list. The application is loaded with other features like RSS, Contacts, Notes, etc.
  2. you can’t create undated tasks, as I’m trialing this application, all new task get tomorrows date, this is kind of lame, this feature needs to be addressed quickly as I believe it will leave a lot gtders out of the picture.

Its still a cool app and I suggest you try it for 100% sync solution

Holidays and Gtd

As Christmas eve approaches, are you getting any new gadgets, perhaps a new Nokia E71 or maybe a new and cool N79. Try to apply the ‘KISS’ keep it silly simple philosophy, remember to get something that feels comfortable and has the necessary options. If you go to Amazon.com the E71 is $349.99 food for thought. Happy Holidays

Are you Micro-Managing your Lists or do you need a better Weekly Review ?

Sometimes we scan our lists a million times a day often times not really doing a next action or checking to see what’s the next action. This kind of behvior poses two questions (1) Are you micro-managing your next actions list or (2) are you doing a thorough Weekly Review ? Ask yourself these two questions because you’ll know the answer in a nano-second, your brain and heart will let you know instantly, don’t let your productivity get clogged or sabotaged by your sense of keeping lists perfect, remember these lists are living and evolutionizing beings and as such a reflection of yourself and your daily habits and as we all know we’re far from perfect. As long as your lists fulfill their purpose – “Getting Things Done” then don’t over magnify them.

Tip: Go back to the Gettings Things Done book and reread the passages on the Weekly Review and set the little micro manager within you free.

Projekt by Kylom software, the best kept secret of Gtd in Symbian

I could not be happier after surfing the web and the different Symbian S60 sites I came accross Kylom Software which is the creator of an applicaiton called Projekt. Projekt is an advanced S60 outliner which has a multitude of options but since the focus of the site is “getting things done” I will be preparing an indepth review of Projekt and its effectiveness as a Gtd tool. In the meantime shoot over to Klyom Software and download the trial and start testing it out.

Introduction

Hello fellow Nokia fans, my name is George and I used to host blackberrygtd.com and now since my new gadget is a Nokia E71, I felt my new phone needed its own site to express itself. I’m happy to be joining the Symbian and Nokia community and I hope to enlighten and educate folks on the different methods of “getting things done” on the Nokia E71. See you soon
